32nd Nativity in the Well
«The Son of the Father»

the 2020-2021 edition concludes the cycle of “witnesses” with a decidedly unusual theme

The subject

Every year our Christmas Crib follows a different theme, and every year we propose new hypotheses or important confirmations, in a philological game involving tradition and sacred texts, between history and possible new routes to be followed, always aware that sometimes the charm of a hypothesis is stronger than the pleasure of certainty. The 32nd edition, postponed to Christmas 2021 due to Covid-19, will be the fifth and final of the “witnesses” cycle, in which the Nativity is told by supporting characters, who offer their unusual point of view. The exceptional narrator will be a singular Barabbas, a childhood friend of Mary.

Barabbas

“Bar-abbâ” in Aramaic means “Son of the Father” and it was both the epithet of Jesus and the name of his antagonist for the gallows, in the strange and cruel ballot proposed by Pontius Pilate to the people of Jerusalem. That Barabbas was far from a stranger to Maria, who shared the first years of his life with him. Will the two meet again? Will Barabbas look for Mary or vice versa? And when? But above all, why?

The exhibition

As in the 2019-2020 edition, for the entire duration of the event, a small exhibition of the coins of the time of Jesus will be open to the public: it will possible to see some original coins in circulation in Palestine between the 1st century BC and the 1st century AD. For this new edition it will also be possible to admire an original coin of Pontius Pilate.
