31st Nativity in the Well
«The Instrument»

the 2019-2020 edition continues the cycle of “witnesses” with an unprecedented theme

The subject

Every year our Christmas Crib follows a different theme, and every year we propose new hypotheses or important confirmations, in a philological game involving tradition and sacred texts, between history and possible new routes to be followed, always aware that sometimes the charm of a hypothesis is stronger than the pleasure of certainty.
The 31st edizion is the fourth in the cycle of “witnesses”, in which the Nativity is told by supporting characters, who propose their unusual point of view.
This year the exceptional narrator is an unusual and unexpected Judas Iscariot, the most reliable of the Twelve …

Judas Iscariot

Judas Iscariot, the only Jew in the group of the Galilean Apostles of Jesus, was reputed to be the most trusted of the Twelve, so as to give him the coffers and to let him manage contacts with the members of the Sanhedrin. If it had not been by means of what is universally known as his “betrayal” there would have been no crucifixion and no resurrection.
A journey to discover a possible truth that will make us wonder why we believe in what we believe.

The exhibition

For the entire duration of the event, a small exhibition of the coins of the time of Jesus will be open to the public: some original coins in circulation in Palestine between the 1st century BC and the 1st century AD and some copies of the coins cited by the Gospels, reproduced from the originals of the Vatican Apostolic Library. The proceeds from the sale of the copies (double numbered volumes by Scripta Maneant) will contribute to the construction of a large water well in Africa.

The soundtrack

We are really happy to announce that the song we use as soundtrack of the final scene of the 31st Nativity in the Well (in the suggestive large Etruscan cave at the end of the archaeological complex), is the beautiful “Ave Maria” by Fabrizio De André, in the touching interpretation of Antonella Ruggiero. We thank Universal Music Publishing Ricordi and producer Roberto Colombo for their availability.
